You will know by the time you run the marathon what your body needs. That is part of the reason for the 20 mile run(s) that you will do. That is the perfect time (as is each of your long runs, actually) to figure out what the best combination/volume of water, gatorade and gu is. For myself, I will drink water until about mile 10 (or my first gu) and then drink gatorade at all of the stops at which I am not having a gu. When you take gu it is wisely advised to wash it down with water, not gatorade. In the marathon, I generally take 3-4 gus which means carrying a few myself since there are generally only two gu stations in a race. I hope that is helpful and good luck!!
