I agree completely with Zeke, but ... If you are just trying to check something off you bucket list ... start training now - Expect to train 6-10 months. Find a plan that seems to fit your goals and aerobic ability. If you are a very aerobically fit person (Already workout aerobically many hours a week, just not running) you can expect a faster learning curve. If you are a non-aerobically fit person - 10 months may not be enough.
If your goal is to just complete a marathon within the maximum time limit - Most course are 6 hours, some are set up for walkers and stay open 7 or 8 hours.
Hal Higdon has a decent program for beginners, Jeff Galloway if you want to walk and run.
Good luck - I hope you want to become a life long runner, but if it is just a thing - Good luck anyway!
