I totally agree with Zeke. Brittany, like you I decided about 3 years ago that I wanted to run a marathon. During that time the only time I ran was on the track during the summertime because i loved to be outside in the warm weather. I would say that I entered into running blindly.
I joined the running club at my gym because they were training people to run a marathon. We had track workouts once a week (which took me about 4 months to realize that it was called speedwork) and we were given a calendar of runs we should do during the week. After talking to a few people they suggested I should try running a half marathon before doing a full and also running 5ks and 10ks. So that is what i did.
To make a long story short, I realized that there is alot more to running than just getting out there and running. Running stores, running attire, hydration belts, gels, gu, nutrition, 5ks, 10ks, 8ks, 10-milers, different running groups, pacing, endurance and the time needed for training and much more.
Since I have started running it has changed my life and opened new doors for me. It changed my body, I cut my hair, my appetite, my diet, my wardrobe and I have met wonderful people.
So, just like Zeke said become a runner first. Let me tell you, it is a lot of hard work, its not easy and a big time commitment but it is definitely worth it. Enjoy!
