Joni, why not save the shirt as a keepsake of the race. If you continue running halves or even full marathons, the shirts will make memories as good as any photo album.
Some people feel you should not wear the shirt until you have run the race, which is something else to consider.
Finally, if you do wear the shirt which you have probably picked up just the day before the race, make sure you wash it first. It's a good rule to not wear anything in a race situation which you have not worn in a previous run and then washed, to make sure it doesn't cause you any problems when it really counts.
