I had this idea, but finally did something about starting a late fall into winter fitness challenge that will also raise a little money for charity. The basics are:
Starting Nov. 1st any entered runner (or walker) runs one mile. Each consecutive day you run an additional mile so that you do 2 miles on Nov. 2nd, and 3 miles on Nov. 3rd, etc. The entry fee is $20 per runner, ALL of which will go to two charities (one of which the last runner going gets to pick) and the rules are pretty simple, but will be held strictly. It IS an honor system on reporting you did the daily mileage, but you also HAVE to report it (email or blog post) by midnight each day, or you will be dropped. Each day's miles have to be run ON THAT DAY.
These miles can be run on tracks, roads, trails, treadmills, and are perfectly acceptable as part of a race. They have to be done consecutively (i.e. no 3 miles in the morning and 3 miles at night on day 6.) Since walking is allowed, there is NO speed limit, so ANYONE can do this.
I personally doubt anyone will make it much past 30 miles (think about the TIME spent each day as the limiting factor - that IS a challenge by the way Kurt) but am very excited to see what happens. Having just started it there are FOUR entrants (I am one of those) but I am going to post this on a few other boards and email lists to try to get some excited runners to join in.
The site to go to if you want all the nitty gritty details and maybe an entry form is:

Well, that is about all I can think of to say about it for now. Thanks for reading if you got this far!
