I understand how frustrating it is to run when there are injuries keeping you back. I'm not sure about marathon training, as I have not run one yet (hopeing to soon!) but have run competitively since I was 9.
Because you are a dancer and are used to running on your toes you are going to have difficulty trying to remember not to do that when running. One thing that would be very beneficial to you would be to start doing running drills everyday. There are lots of drills designed to help runners with form. By doing these drills everyday it should help you run properly...eveuntually you won't even have to think about it.
Additionally there are lots of things you can do to cross train, for example bike, eliptical, swim, etc. Which will be more beneficial to you then being in pain!
Another thing that helps with shin splits is to ice cup your legs a couple times a day. I usually get little paper dixie cups for this fill them about 3/4 the way with water and freeze them. That way you can rub the ice in the areas that are hurtful, and you still have the paper cup to hold onto so your fingers dont get cold!
Anyways, I hope this helps!
