How long have you been running for? There are lots of good plans out there for newbies. For my first marathon, I used "4 months to a 4 hour marathon." GREAT book with some awesome advice, including great marathons for newbies. They have several different plans in there for longer than four hours to. Gives you advice on eating, training, what to wear, what to drink while running, etc. And, I ended up running exactly 4 hours when I followed the training plan.
