A few months back I had a similar problem....soreness around my right hip area. Here are my ideas:

1) Hip stretches. Just like others said, stretching the muscles in this area is always a "good thing".

2) Consider a chiropractor. I made a couple of visits to a chiropractor around the same time I was having my hip soreness. She did some "adjustments" on me, saying my hips were "somewhat out of line".

I'm not sure which of these suggestions solved my problem (or if it was a combination of both) but I have been pain free for months now.
