I think the mistake most of us make is just taking time off without having it diagnosed. There is a reason that the pain occured - Taking time off may have taken care of it - If not have it checked out by someone that specializes in running injuries. I had a lot of issues and took a chunk of time off - it did squat because I had not addressed the underlying problem. If I had gotten it looked at - I could have avoided 6 months off and gaining 40# - I just had to add the right strengthening / stretching excercises and almost immediately (3 weeks) I had -0- pain.
