hi folks...
so i'm going to run a marathon... and it's going to be a challenge... i'm shooting for the St Jude in Memphis in December...
I'm 6 feet tall about 175 pounds, 31 years, but have exercised little other than my liver for the last 10 years or so... back in high school I used to run long distance but that was a long time ago...
my diet isn't great but I have almost completely eliminated drinking since the beginning of 2008... figure running will help me stay off the booze and obviously will require me to eat better...
amazingly, my blood pressure is normal as is my cholesterol... and my metabolism has really held up despite doing little for so long... i've had a full physical exam recently and everything is okay... so i've got somewhat of a genetic edge i guess...
so I've looked as some marathon training schedules on the web, and some buildup running schedules for before the true marathon training... i feel pretty confident because I have lots of time and motivation... my little sister is about to run her second marathon!
so today I ran for the first time in maybe 13 years.. one short mile... it was very very tough... and by the time I made it back to my house all I could do was lay on the carpet and and pant heavily... the whole time feeling just terrible... but i'm typing this 30 minutes later and am starting to feel a lot better...
of course I'll be scouring this and other website for tips, techniques, and advice, but any encouragement is greatly appreciated...
breathing techniques, eating tips for before and after the run, etc... thanks in advance...
