4 hours can be an agressive goal for a 1st timer. If you have any type of running base and are willing to work hard, it's possible. If you aren't already running 3-4 days a week at least 3 miles each, you need more preparation time. If you're already running some, check out this book: http://www.amazon.com/Four-Months-Four-hour-Marathon-Kuehls/dp/0399524150 It has a very specific training plan and a lot of "must know" information for the first timer.
