Your shoes should last 400 miles or so. At 25 miles per week, that's just four months...you can't do anything better for yourself than to get to a pro shop for runners and have an experienced person set you up. Spend good money on specialty socks too.
After that, learn to rise above general discomfort...that's part of the deal.
