First, never ever try something new the day of the Marathon. If you have not trained with it, do not experiment the day of the race.
¿How many Gels should I carry with me? — Have you trained with gels? How often did you take them? 3-4 work for me. ie 12mile, 16mile, 20mile..
¿Should I eat some solid food during the course of the race? - did you train with solid food? If not, I would not recommend it. I do not eat solid food in marathons, but I do eat solid food in Ultras.
¿Should I start running at my usual pace...or start slowly and then try to cath on?...I´m going to try to finish it in 4 hours. — Biggest mistake (new and experienced) is to start out to fast and crash and burn at the end. This is your first marathon, so your goal should be to finish, your second goal is 4 hours. Thus, start out slow and if you continue to feel good, pick up the pace.
Most important... enjoy the sights, sounds and people of the race.
