Zeke, you bring up a good point about over-use injuries and especially in younger kids. I have coached basketball from ages 13 — 17 for over 20 years (just recently retired). But I've noticed more serious non-contact occurring knee injuries in the last 8 years than ever before and I think it's because the kids are forced to play 12 months a year if they want to play at the next level. I really believe they are wearing out their bodies by not resting and pushing too much. I can see how this would also be dangerous for kids training for a marathon. I wonder what is the injury statistics for female gymnasts (at world class level)? They're nothing but kids.
