It's so much easier to run a marathon when it's in your back yard and you can have a couple of days rest and relaxation prior to the marathon rather than rushing around for a copule of days taking care of the excess travel and other logistics. If the logistics aren't simple, and you do not have a week or so to kill gettting relaxed in the new environment, it can have a detrimental affect on your energy levels/psychological levels for the run itself.
