I went through a period where I experienced pain in my pubic symphsis area while running (especially doing speed work). I would ice my pelvis area after running which helped. I also found wearning compression shorts under my running shorts really made a difference. I guess they hold things in-place while running. At first I thought it was a hernia ... wrong. I then went to see an orthopedic doc who thought I may have injured my pubic symphasis, which is a piece of hard cartilage at the front of your pelvic bone in the lower center. I had an MRI which didn't show anything. In the doc's words "well maybe its inflammed but not visible on the scan". I pretty much ran through the entire issue but did cut back on running and increased by road biking. After all was said and done, the pain went away gradually and on its own. Looking back, I think I had tight adductors (muscle on your inner thigh that is connected between your pelvis and femur)and also had an adductor muscle imbalance which was essentially pulling on my pelvis and causing a misalignment. No single event caused the problem. I think it was a combination of overtraining and you guessed it, not stretching. I never did find a smoking gun where I could say "that's it". My advice, see a doc first, if you're going to run, cut back on speed/hill work, ice and try the compression shorts idea. Good Luck.
