Experiment with your hydration intervals/fluids on your longer runs. You will eventually find the right combination. I started out trying to go 5-6 miles between water stops and that was too long, especially in August in Houston. Four mile intervals seem to work best for me. I have also switched from all water to mostly Gatorade. I found the little bit of sugar to be helpful to me. I am not always as good about my hydration and diet as I should be during the day, but I would agree that urine color is the best way to tell how you're doing.
