I'm running Grandma's and it's real flat. The only real hill is at mile 20. I determined my Max heart rate using a calculator in Runnersworld.com for fit runners. I don't remember the formula, but it's not 200 minus your age. I also know from where I boink in my speed workouts.

Thanks for your answer. I've read much about heart rate training and found it a good way to stay on target in my workouts. There is little infomation out there on using heartrate during a race. As a first timmer, I wantto besure not to go out too fast. The monitor is my insurance.
