Honestly, I think I have enough slow twitch fibers to make me a decent marathoner and enough fast twitch to make me only mediocre in the faster races. I can't produce anything spectacular in either genre! However, I've had some obstacles to deal with in the past year that may not have made things easier- sleep deprivation like crazy, nursing a baby (I just quit 2 weeks ago) and my nutrition is a bit to be desired. I'm in the process of improving my diet so we'll see if that helps... Is the 10 miler local or in Chicago? I'm sort of looking for a 10 mile or 1/2 marathon in the next week or two that's relatively close to run. 10 mile is my favorite race distance and the only one I didn't run this year. I bet you'll knock it out! I would love to hook up with you for a marathon but you would probably hate me. I truly don't know if I can run an even pace, I'm a negative split kind of girl. I need to start slower and then start cruising. If I try to run an even pace I peter out at the end and start doing the grandma shuffle! When my body has had it, it just won't go anymore no matter how much I want it to. :)
