ITBS?!?

It's about a month until the Marine Marathon in DC... I've been working through my training program (this is my first marathon!) and during my 14 mile run, I started to get pain on the outside of my left knee. Having been running on the roads, I figured it was because of the slant of the road and I've tried to make sure I'm on flatter surfaces... skip forward, I did 17.5 today and experience such pain that I had to walk some of my run...

If indeed I do have ITBS, can I still run the marathon? How serious is it?
