Lucia, I would be more surprised if you WEREN'T impatient! The very first run I did when I could start up again was a 17 minute 2 miler. :) Actually, it was less than 2 miles now that I think about it. I really paid attention to how my body felt during the first week or two during runs and then how it responded after each one. I did not experience any problems but I was pretty careful the first couple of weeks. After that (when I felt really stable internally) I started working pretty hard. During my discharge discussion with my OB I was very specific in asking when I could resume "normal" activity. He replied that I could get back to normal in 4 weeks and then I had him define "normal". I made it clear to him that I would be looking to increase my mileage asap to start getting ready for Boston. If I were you I would try to have a similar chat with your Dr/surgeon and let them know what your specific situation is. I can't imagine you'll be held back much more than 4 weeks and when you can get back into it I don't think it will take you long to pick up where you left off. I'm obviously not advocating carelessness but from personal experience you should be feeling pretty good by mid October. Have you thought about running a marathon at a later date?
