Big deal.
The fact is that there is nobody else out there running sub 2:50 marathons on a week-in, week-out basis.
He has to run Sunriver, OR this weekend - June 24th - because it is the only one on the schedule and it happens to be small.
There are plenty of runners all over the country who will go run a small race to take home money or hardware. It happens in Houston all the time.
Maybe you're one of the purists. If so, congratulations and good for you.
If he can go to a small race that offers some prize money that helps against expenses, good for him.
I often find that the people that complain are jealous of the attention that others get.
