I suspect that if you add up the amount of money raised by those who did the run but did not promote themselves as a charity fund raiser you will find that the total raised is a great deal more than $600 million. Such people make donations and do good good work all the time in their daily lives. The difference is they don't ask that their fees and expenses be paid out of the money that they raise.
