It's all about respect

As best I can tell, the main beef people like Bambi have with charity runners is that they don't respect the event. If you're involved in any sort of activity and take it seriously, it's only natural that it bothers you when new people come in and make a mockery out of something that is your passion. You see this a lot in golf where the more serious golfers get ticked off at people who are new to the sport, play slowly, make a lot of noise and don't dress appropriately. I guess the moral of the story for any wannabe marathoner is to make sure you're prepared for the event, that you've paid your dues by running for a few years at shorter events and you're familiar with the ettiquette in racing.
