I'm a little wary of getting involved in this, but... I don't understand the vitriol aimed at "charity runners." People who cheat? Yes. People who get in everyone's way and don't know the etiquette? Yes. People who don't train and shouldn't be out there? Yes. But I run on the American Liver Foundation team in the Boston Marathon ("bought my way" into the marathon as one fellow on this thread put it) and none of those applied to anyone on my team. It's an incredibly well-organized race, and they made sure we weren't in the way of any of you fast, thin folks. But when the gun went off, we all had to run it. And gosh, I even finished ahead of some people who weren't charity runners, and, as slow as I was, some people who actually qualified who were just having a bad day. I ran MCM on my own, so does that somehow make me "better" than when I ran Boston with a team in April? And if I finish ahead of non-charity people, what does that make them? It's all so confusing... By the way, Bambi, you are funny as hell, but don't every get between me and a plate of lasagne ... And why don't you post your real name? Put your money where your mouth is?
