There are enough races for everyone

Seems like there are a lot of differing opinions on here but for the most part everyone agrees that not completing the entire 26.2 mile course is cheating and those participants should be DQ'd and groups such as Jeans Marines should be banned. I totally agree. I've run marathons through charity groups and on my own. There are benefits to both and nothing wrong with either option. I would think that's a personal choice. I did my first one through a charity group because, even though I'd been running 5 and 10k's for about 7 years, I felt I needed a coach for the first marathon in order to be sure I was training correctly to avoid injury or the many pitfalls of the undeducated. We were trained to complete the full race and it was stressed to everyone during the informational meetings and throughout the training sessions what was necessary in order to complete an endurance event. Cheating was NEVER considered by any team members, coaches or staff members of the organization. I'm disgusted to know that this is a problem within some organizations but it's ridiculous to generalize the way several of the posters have done here.

For those of you that are convinced that all charity runners are fat slobs and don't deserve to share the course with you and should have their own races, maybe you should have races just for your types as well. We could line 26.2 miles with mirrors so you can admire yourselves the entire distance. We could provide ipods for all of you with a looped recording telling you how much better you are than those silly runners who trained and raised funds. We'll also be sure there are no unattractive people or anyone without an olympic athlete's build on the course to offend you. You could even have your own special medals with a little picture frame in the middle for your photo and a little planet earth rotating around your mugshot since that's how seem to view yourself already. It'll be your own personal "Center of the Universe" medal and race. How appropriate!
