what a severly ignorant post. So let's get this straight, unless you are there to win (which WAY under 1% of the people in almost any marathon even have the remotest possibility of doing) then you aren't a real marathoner and you should stay home. Come to win or dont come at all.
Do you honestly believe marathoning in america would be what it is if only the people there to compete went to marathons? Dont be fooled, this is a business. Just like the NFL, there are companies out there to make $$ off of marathoners, and not just the fast ones.
So, Mike, what's your full name so we can be looking for you in the next Olympics, you must be a sub 2:15 marathoner since you are there to compete, or are you staying home? Maybe you only do small marathons where a 3 hour time will win.... cause unless you are a sub 2:15 runner, welcome to the real world where you lost just like the 7 hour person who walked it. woohoo they lost by more time but you both lost (but I bet that person who came in at 7 hours is a lot happier about finishing than you are because they are just darn happy to be there, you are worried more about your time).
not only that, but walking 26.2 IS every BIT as hard as running it. try to walk a 20 miler one day for the heck of it. be out there for 6 hours and see if you think writing a check is just as easy as that.
I think we have a male Bambi here....
