Please tell me I'm mis-interpreting your statement
"The charities provide the alternate finish not as a way to CHEAT but to give that participant a finish line for all the work they have done above and beyond training for an endurance event!"
That when you say "alternate finish" you don't mean cut the distance.
If they want to feel good about raising the money - host a Gala Ball, but if you haven't trained and are fit enough to go the distance in the required time - GET OFF THE ROAD.
Stop using Marathons as your pet project ... what's next, charity Ironmans? Imagine how that would be tolerated.
I'm certainly not critizing the hard work of raising funds, and the value of good charities, but you won't find much that annoys Runners more than wannabes who don't or won't give what it takes to become a runner.
The issue here was Jeans Marines (it was news to me that she was a charity). No one is going to dispute the value of TNT or Joints in Motion. Jeans Marines runners don't raise money to run ... go to her website - she's pretty clear that all you gotta do is show up and she'll get you across the finish line.
