Get up and do something good

I am coordinator for one of these "charity" groups and really can't believe the amount of time that some of you have put into judging what other people's goals are! Everyone is wired differently. Some do the 26.2 for the hell of it, some do it because they lost a loved one to a really terrible disease and others do it maybe because they want to wake up in the morning and know they were a part of something good! We all have our reasons and so maybe the "finish" is not what it is about for EVERYONE! As one of you mentioned, we all experience good and bad days of running. You can be a sub 4 hour marathoner and have an injury and end up "not finishing" or coming in during that 7th hour! The charities provide the alternate finish not as a way to CHEAT but to give that participant a finish line for all the work they have done above and beyond training for an endurance event! (like raising $4000 for a good cause!) I am someone who loves to run and loves the marathon and can finish in the required amount but seeing someone work their ass for 5+ months to do the same and getting to that finish line is worth more than to sit and listen to you all bitch about a silly medal they received. You got your medal? Great! But leave those alone and don't judge another persons path in the world of marathoning!
