This whole thing is heartbreaking. It's like when we all realized that Ben Johnson was taking PEDs. Although I in no way support any cheating in any form, I can't help but feel terrible for Jean. This is a woman who has spent hours upon hours of her time running a charity organization whose goal is two-fold. It's not about running. The primary goal is to avail self-esteem to a group of women. They all sign up for different reasons, just like we all did when conptemplating our first marathons. Most finish without any problems. The second goal is the charity part. Each woman raises money for the race charity.
Let's look at this event as a wake up call, but forgive Jean Mauresmo. If any of us have sacrificed that much time and energy for others, then go ahead and slam her. I certainly have not and will not.
Here is her response to the public: http://www.jeansmarines.com/news.asp?nid=14
As an aside, I don't in any way believe that this being a charity makes cheating in any way not wrong. This goes as well for Lance Armstrong whose millions of dollars raised for cancer in no way justifies his use of PEDs.
