I have heard it from many many women - that they have gained weight while training for a marathon. From experience i can tell you that running long runs and a marathon can make you have serious craings and very hungry. I you do the math you may end up eating more calories than you burn off. Also I definately gained a lot of muscle mass when training. How about sleep - those longs runs can make you exhausted and sleep more. The other thing I have noticed and heard from so many women is that it makes you retain water. An extreme would be hypertoromia but without getting to the point your bosy starts to store up water and hold on to it if you are following one of the training scehdules.
