Attention experienced Marathoners: I NEED YOUR ADVICE!!!

I am registered to run my 2nd marathon this Saturday. (My first was last November)...I want to just finish with a smile on my face, as I did after my first. My problem is that due to achy joints (esp.knees)I decided to back off the running the last two weeks. I've taken a few long walks, hoping that I'll feel good (enough) to do the distance this weekend. Now I'm REALLY getting scared, I can't sleep from thinking about the race. My knees are much improved (not 100%, but I'm 50 years old, for God's sake & I guess I need to face reality!)...My longest run before the last two weeks was an 18...I did 4/1 Galloway. Has anyone been in a similar situation and run a marathon and survived to tell the tale? I'd like some POSITIVE thoughts so I can stop stressing. Thanks in advance!!!
