I am no athlete, but could run 3 miles in 30 minutes last March. With that as my base, I read every book my library had on distance running and scoured the Internet for training advice/schedules that would work for me. 3 miles 3x a week became 4x4, 5x5, and then that 5th 5 miler became my long run every Saturday. Add 2 miles each week and I ran my first marathon last October (Detroit) nonstop with a time of 4:25 - approx 10 minute miles. This is VERY doable!
