Clearly my comments are the ones of a rookie. What offends me is not the "Athena" distinction, but rather that it parallels the "Clydsdale" category for the men. They might aswell call us "Bessies" because all I can think of is an enormous animal clopping along. It should also be mentioned my only goal is to better my last marathon time. Placing in ANY category has never been important to me. And the race committee did reply to my inquiry...I wonder how many of them are Clydsdales and Athenas...or even run for that matter?
