The latest issue of Running Times has an article by Suzanne Eberle entitled "Don't Leave Home Without 'em." It says a package of Gu is 100 calaroies, consisting of 25 grams of carbohydrates and 40 mg of sodium. I have a package of Vanilla Bean in my hand that says it weighs 1.1 oz. The main ingredients are maltodextrin, water, and fructose. That should be sufficient information if you want to mix your own with honey or other carbohydrate.

Remember that part of what you pay for is the very convenient packaging.
