I get the same type of pain, though I know mine are from bunions (big toe leans inward almost overlapping the next one) (often attributed to high heeled shoes), but in my case they are an inherited foot problem, as my mom and grandmother had them also. Aside from surgury which can be painful, make sure your shoes are well cushioned in the front and flexible. Go to a specialty running store, and do some research on bunions and I bet you'll find out that what it is. Mine occasionally give me pain, and a good anti inflammatory is what the doctor give me, aside from a day or two of rest.
