Sorry to hear that the race didn't go as planned. Especially frustrating since everything leading up to it went so well. Since I have not yet run a marathon, I can't properly empathize, but I can identify with having the wheels come off during a run. Hopefully this hard run will result in physiological adaptions that lead to a fantastic NYC marathon. I would be interested to know how the recovery process goes over the next few weeks and if you slip in another marathon between now and NYC.
I ran a local 20k race here today to gauge my level of fitness. I didn't back off any this week, did a speed workout Monday, and ran my normal runs the rest of the week. I did take Friday off. I must admit I was dissapointed. Perhaps it was the humidity, we ran at least half the race in the fog. Perhaps my legs were just tired, but I didn't have the strength I wanted and I ran out of gas at 10 miles. I gutted it in w/o falling terribly far off the pace, but the entire run was far slower than what I had hoped. This leaves me three weeks from my 1/2 and completely unsure of what pace to shoot for! I started running about a year and a half ago, and I think I am expecting too much too quick. Problem is that I have a time goal I have had my eye on for a year, and I don't think it is going to happen! I probably need another year in order to reach it, although it pains me to say that!
