You know, I've heard and read before that when hair is lost it's actually a sign that new growth is starting to grow. Supposedly when the body goes through a stressful event hair growth stops/slows and once the body adjusts to the stress then the hair grows again (and loses the old stuff).
The pony tail thing might have something to do with it too. If it gets too bad I'd check with a doctor. I have a friend that just had her thyroid checked because she was concerned about her hair loss. She wasn't thrilled to hear her doctor say her hair's just thinning (my friend's now using Rogaine).
I've also noticed that some shampoos and conditioners aren't as soothing to my ridiculously fine hair and can result in me pulling out my hair more as I wash it. I love the new Dove line of shampoos, really seems to be kind to the scalp. Maybe you could experiment some with different shampoos too.
