My friends got me a $100 gift card to Footlocker to get new shoes for my upcoming marathon. The selection at Footlocker is bad, so I went to Lady Footlocker, and it was a little better.
I needed new shoes because mine were too narrow. Running shoes are made wider than other athletic shoes, so shorter distances were great, but my feet are quite wide, and after 10-15 miles, swell up. My Brooks Adrenalines did not come in wide (and Footlocker doesn't carry Brooks anyway).
Because I also overpronate, my only option was to special order Ryka KM5, size 9 W (I usually wear 7 1/2 W)for $80, which came in the mail less than a week before the marathon. I ran the whole 26.2 in them with no problems.
I was lucky, but here's a lesson for everyone: if you want to give a runner a convenient birthday present, do NOT give her a Footlocker gift card.
