was at the Huntsville Rocket City Marathon. Although the prize money offered was small compared to a big race, the race was small (less than 1000 runners) and they offered prizes 12-deep in Open and Age-Graded 50+ categories, and 6-deep in the Masters category. With a 3:29 race time (which is mediocre in a big race) I was able to come home with a $250 cash for being the 5th female masters. In addition, they raffled off a $1000 cash award and everyone who ran in the race and showed up to the awards presentation was eligible to win. Since only about 300-400 people showed up to the awards presentation, that was relatively good odds of winning some money even if you weren't relatively fast!
