I came across this website after a friend told me about it. After reading many of the posts regarding walkers in marathons, I have to admit I have to agree with the negative postings. I'm a marathon walker who is amazed at the number of walkers who walk more than 2 abreast, start close to the front, etc. This creates havoc for the faster athletes who are racing for time or who are trying to PR. I have raced in marathons where I have had to cut thru packs of walkers walking 6 abreast....and I'm a walker! I would never do that....believe me, if you read some of the posts by runners on the marathon pages race feedback, there are many complaints about walkers and the lack of race etiquette. Please.....line up according to your per mile pace, please stay off to the side if need be, and please, please, walk no more than two abreast. Many races allow walkers as a courtesy, so let's not abuse the privilege. Please be courteous and allow runners to pass...let's not give give runners fuel for the fire in terms of complaints re: walkers. If you are a newbie and not sure of race etiquette, ASK! Any other walker or runner will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Marathon walking is a wonderful hobby that has changed my life, but it saddens me to see fellow walkers not following race etiquette. Let's be careful out there!
