I'm a marathon runner (I do it the old fashioned way), but I have done a couple specific walk marathons (like the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk) and my husband and I do a lot of volksmarching and long hikes.
I find it interesting how many people thinking walking a marathon is somehow easy or comparatively easy. I always found it to be more gruelling for me than running one - mostly because I'm out there almost twice as long and that takes a toll. It might be less pounding than running, but my hat is off to you folks - you work hard and you've got this runner's sincerest respect.
I'm planning to run a marathon in May and am thinking of entering a walk marathon in March. Again, my hat is off to you folks. If I hadn't tried it myself after years of running, I wouldn't have known how hard it is to engage in your sport.
