Running a marathon has always been something that I wanted to do "some day", but never have. I turn 40 in Feb, so I"ve decided to commemorate being "over-the-hill by running a marathon. My problem is that I'm only an occasional runner. I am in the Navy so I have to be somewhat fit, but I only run maybe 3-5 miles a week. I know that I'm definitely not in shape for a race now, and I will need to dedicate myself to training. My race of choice is the Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans (my home) on Feb. 29, 2004, which is 22 weeks away. Any suggestions on how to proceed, and please tell me if running this race is a good goal or should I try for one a little later in the year?
