I went from Couch Potato to marathon in about 10 months. I was barely able to complete the initial 3 mile run when I started the 20 week training progam. If you are already in reasonable shape and follow a sensible program you should be able to do it.
One rough point is calculating a pace. I recommend once you get up to running 6 miles without too much discomfort, run a timed 10K and use the predictors to set your training pace for the rest of the program.
