Actually, one of my groups has used a wheel to measure one of the courses. Another time, we used a satellite positioning system to measure a course.
Another good way is to get a map from a bike shop and use dental floss to measure out a route (then again, you'd have to deal with distance scales, and again you are too dumb to be able to do that correctly).
