I just completed my first marathon in Richmond on 11/13. I trained for 6 months with a marathon training team and did fine until the long run became 16 miles. My quads seized on me and I had to stretch every 50 yards or so, which was a real drag-very discouraging. I began doing Galloway 4/1 walk ratio and was able to extend my long run to the marathon distance. I also increased my pace during the run portion, with a better resulting time than before I used the run/walk. I'm 50 and training for my second at Shamrock in March. So glad I discovered the run/walk thing, I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise.
