I did the run walk thing last year in New York. I missed six weeks of training due to an injury. I only had 10 weeks to get back in shape. After 4 or 5 weeks I got used to the transition from walking to running. Still toward the end of the race my legs would get stiff while walking and I had trouble getting going again. I think that was more due to the shortend training time.
All in all, I did not enjoy the walk/ runing, but it was better than staying home.
