Old first timer...smart training at 53

I am training for my first marathon...LA on March 7. At 53 I am especially concerned with proper training to avoid injury. I stretch everyday and just started taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin. I have some slight soreness in my knees and have creaked going up stairs for a decade. I will let you know if I feel any difference using these joint supplements.

I have been running regularly since May and am running two distance runs each week (Sunday and Wednesday) 8 and 10 miles. I am increasing to 9 and 11 after three more weeks. I have one rest day and do 5-6 miles at a faster pace on the other days. I am 187 lbs and a very slow runner. My issue is my calves and achilles tendons that have become increasingly tight the past week. Should I also stretch after my runs? My chiropractor friend gave me a number of stretches when I pulled a hamstring about a year ago. He also convinced me to change my workout to include more stretching. I am concerned that my problems with my calves may increase. Suggestions?
