It's pretty ridiculus. It's a viscous circle that keeps repeating.
Those who are now doing the looking down must realise one thing...20 years ago those of us who could run a sub 3:00 marathon looked down on those who finished with a 3:15 or longer.
In fact back then, if one wasn't going to finish with a 3:10 or less, one would drop out and go home rather than be embarrased with a bad finishing time of 3:15.
Times have changed and practically anything is accepted now. The goal now (and I agree with it) is to finish and have fun!
