It's only logical that, all else equal, being lighter will help you run faster. The challenge, of course, is keeping all else equal.

I'm 5'2" and weigh around 118. Looking at me, most people would say that I'm thin. At one point in my life I got a bit obsessive about my weight & got down to 108, and was told by my friends that I was *too* thin - even though this is well within the range of what's 'normal' for my height. And for what it's worth, I know that I run faster now then I did at 108 - so there's at least one violation of the lighter=faster rule.

So I guess what I want to say is that you have to go by what's right for you, not by what some chart of height & weight tells you. I think most people who have a healthy diet & get plenty of exercise will stabilize at the weight that's appropriate for them. You can experiment with losing a few pounds and see if that helps your speed, but my guess is that, if you're already in good shape, there's a limit to how much it would help.
